You cannot convey the necessity to conserve without first passing along the passion and understanding.

That is exactly what the Dallas Safari Club understands and practices as evidenced by the Youth Event they they hold twice year. Middle and High school children in North and Central Texas are offered a special elective class which they can use to fulfill one of the physical education credits they need in order to graduate. This is no ordinary P.E. class. The Outdoor Adventures class teaches fishing, conservation, backpacking, CPR, hunter and boater safety, and much more. During the course, they are offered the chance to attend the S.A.F.E.T.Y. Extravaganza sponsored by the Dallas Safari Club (DSC).

This event is an amazing opportunity for the children and one of their parents to put what they have learned in the classroom into action. During the course of the day, the children rotate from station to station learning not only the history but also the implementation of various types of outdoor equipment. For example, at the archery station, the children are taught the differences between the types of bows and how to properly handle them. The attendees, to include the parents, are then given the opportunity to use each type of bow. Parent participation is highly encouraged allowing the children and parents to connect with each other. The staff of the Dallas Safari Club has made this a wonderful opportunity for the children that attend as well as the people who are able to volunteer their time and services.

Please call the Dallas Safari Club offices at 972-980-9800 if you are interested in volunteering. The next event is September 18, 2010 and will be held at Greystone Castle.

We would like to thank the Dallas Safari Club for letting Long Grass be a part of the day and helping us have another way to give back to our future outdoor enthusiasts.
We look forward to the spring when we will be able to volunteer again!
