Detail Description

The T3 Hat for Kids is a regular T3 Hat made just for the smaller head size of a child! With an adjustable part to its sweatband which enables it to fit children's heads as they grow. It's for those whose heads measure from 20 1/2" to 21 1/2". The T3 Kid Hats, are created from 10-ounce (per square yard) cotton duck, a tough, soft, closely woven, mercilessly preshrunk, water-and mildew-repellent, canvas-like material.

Did you know that by age 8, most people`s heads have reached their maximum size? It`s really worthwhile to measure your child`s head before ordering this Hat. Our regular T3 Hats begin at size 6-7/8, which is (6.875 X pi) about 21-1/2 inches.

Most hats are held on your head with a friction fit, meaning they are tight enough to fit snugly without windcords. The problem with that is that you cannot comfortably wear them all day long without getting a "hat headache". The Tilley hat fits differently. When sized correctly, you should be able to easily insert two fingers, flat, in between your head and the hat band. This will mean the hat will be loose enough that you can rotate it left/right and up/down without friction on your forehead. Initially this more loose fit will feel odd, but after a bit you will enjoy the lack of pressure on your forehead.

And, on a hot muggy day you will especially appreciate your new hat. Although the Tilley fits gently, it won't fly off your head because when there's a breeze, you will use one or both of the tuck-away wind cords.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD:

As mentioned above, a Tilley Hat fits lower and more comfortably than other hats. To find your Tilley size, use a tape measure and draw it around your head, just above the eyebrows. Using that measurement, refer to the Size Chart below to determine your Tilley size. Like footwear, your Tilley Hat must be sized properly. Most hat makers make 4 or 5 sizes while Tilley makes 13 sizes.

Practical Application

Protect those precious little faces, necks and ears with the same Tilley hat you trust for your own head. This hat is comfortable enough that the little ones will not grouch about keeping it on. There is nothing to on this hat that will cause them discomfort by scratching or binding on their little heads.

Care Instructions

Wash it frequently or non-removable sweat stains will mar it and possibly rot it. Machine or hands wash in warm or cool water. Do not use bleach as it remains inside the Hat, slowly rotting it. Smooth and reshape the Hat by hand and set it out to air dry.

When travelling with your Tilley, go ahead and put it in your suitcase. We like to pack ours on the top of the suitcase so you can easily access it as soon as you arrive. To re-shape your hat after having it packed flat during travel, simply pop it out like an old fashioned top hat. To do this, hold the hat upside down holding each the front end and back end of the brim and "pop" it out.

Upon purchase, your Hat is covered by a two-year, all-peril, 50% deductible Hat Insurance Policy to take the pain out of loss or irreparable damage. We understand the anguish of losing this reliable companion, or of having your dog terminally gnaw it. Should that happen, we'll replace your late lamented Tilley at half the catalog price. With your Hat, you'll be provided with `The Straight-Shooter's Statement of Loss of a Tilley Hat insurance policy. The insurance is for two years, all perils, and 50% deductible.

FLOATS:

A layer of closed-cell foam in the crown, and sometimes in the brim, provides the Tilley's positive buoyancy.

TIES ON:

The Tilley comes with a tuckaway, adjustable, fore `n` aft Wind Cord. When it's calm, the Wind Cord stays hidden in the crown. When there's a breeze, place the part with the sliding knots behind your head. When it's windy use the chin part too.

REPELS RAIN:

Not perfectly but usually quite adequately. Happily, the brims of the cotton-duck Tilleys actually become stiffer when they get wet, not floppier, helping to protect your neck, face and glasses.

WON'T SHRINK:

They, in 1980: `Alex, you can't make a cotton hat that won`t shrink!`
Me: `But what if we boiled the material first? Mercilessly preshrunk it?
They: `Well, I guess that would work.` It did and does.

HYDROFIL® ANTI-SWEAT BAND:

Soft and comfortable, it picks up sweat from your forehead and wicks it away to your temple area where it evaporates.

CERTIFIED SUN PROTECTION:

The fabric and style of all Tilley Hats have been certified to block 98 percent of harmful UVA/UVB radiation and deliver an ultraviolet factor (UPF) of 50+, the maximum rating given. You still need SPF 15 sunscreen and sunglasses with UV filters! Children especially need the UV filters in their sunglasses as non-filtering glasses will increase the size of their pupils, allowing even more of the damaging UV rays to enter. This often causes cataracts and retinal problems later in life.

SUNGLASSES` SECURITY:

You can attach your sunglasses to the side of your Tilley: a Velcro tab inside the Hat holds the folded temples of your glasses in place after you've tucked the temples through the solid brass ventilation grommets.
